Car Accident Special Report
“What You Need To Know If You Have Been In A Car Accident”
Injuries from a car wreck can be sneaky, and are potentially debilitating and will strike millions of Americans this year . . . and as a result, many of them will suffer for the rest of their lives due to misinformation and inappropriate care! That’s the bad news.
The Good News is that you don’t have to continue suffering! Keep reading this report to find out the well hidden truth you won’t find anywhere else!
Dear Accident Victim,
Did you know one of the most stressful aspects of living in modern life is dealing with the problems that arise after an auto accident? Were you also aware that some auto accident injuries are hidden and seldom detected for months or even years? As a result, a lot of accident victims settle their case with the insurance companies before getting evaluated from a Doctor trained in soft tissue injuries.
This Could Be a Big Mistake.
Why? Because once you settle your case you lose the right for care if you need it.
A good rule of thumb is to get educated about your options, and then make a decision, there is no reason to rush; it can only hurt you.
It is our position that if you were indeed injured, you should get the care you need to get you back to the way you felt and functioned just before the accident.
Now, it is not the responsibility of the insurance company to pay for anything more than that. They are not responsible for pre-existing injuries; only the injuries sustained from the accident.
Even if you are just sore, you should get checked out immediately.
Because you may experience back and neck pain, numbness, headaches, muscle stiffness, fatigue, and other problems including arthritis many months down the road.
Or maybe while driving your auto, you were involved in an accident and was hit from the front or the side by another vehicle and your head and neck were whipped violently in a front and back or even side motion. This could be enough to cause you to sustain serious spinal injuries. Please do not just hope that your pain will go away. You need to get looked at now . . .
Remember, Nothing is more important than your health when you start to lose it.
You may also be experiencing obvious pains and symptoms like muscle stiffness or spasm, neck pain, headaches, numbness and tingling, back pain, difficulty sleeping, irritability, memory loss, fatigue, difficulty concentrating and many other difficulties or worse than that, you may be injured and feel nothing at all. Either way, did you know that Fort Smith auto accidents could cause post-traumatic osteoarthritis?
Osteoarthritis can ruin your posture (giving you a slumped or hump back appearance). Osteoarthritis can cause the discs in your spine to degenerate and create scar tissue formation leading to chronic stiffness and the inability to move properly.
When this happens, simple tasks like turning your neck or back become painful and almost impossible.
As a matter of fact . . .
Most Doctors Are Not Trained In The Detection Of These Hidden Injuries . . .
How are these hidden injuries detected?
If you have been in an auto accident in Fort Smith, you need a doctor that is trained in the biomechanics of the human body; someone who treats these injuries everyday.
That means that he or she can perform orthopedic and neurological tests as well as other functional tests that can assess soft tissue damage, muscle strength, range of motion, and joint and nerve function.
In addition, x-rays can be taken to find out if there has been any structural damage.
My name is Dr. Alan L. Osowski, D.C.; my office has been treating Auto Accident patients for over 31 years now. We evaluate auto accident victims, and also make any appropriate referrals to other health care providers if needed; including orthopedic doctors, neurologists, physical therapists, massage therapists, MRI centers, and even other chiropractors.
Our Primary Responsibility Is Giving You The Care If You Need It, And Submitting The Required Medical Reports To The Insurance Company So Your Rights Are Protected.
There are many people who are injured who aren’t getting the care they need. If you are injured call us, we can help you a lot: you will not be treated for months on end. We want you to get fixed and out of our office as soon as possible!
If we can’t help you, we will refer you to a Doctor or facility that can.
The office is located in the heart of Fort Smith near Rogers Avenue and Waldron Road just west of the Seasons Inn and Arkansas Blood Institute.
We have treated literally hundreds and hundreds of auto accident victims just like you.
We are staffed with the friendliest people you could ever meet who are all trained in handling the sometimes confusing paperwork that needs to be filled out to make sure that . . .
Your rights are protected and your injuries are properly documented.
If you have been in an auto accident in Fort Smith recently, there are some important decisions you have to make and if I were you, I’d make these decisions very carefully.
Q: What If My Car Sustained Only Minor Damage?
A: Documented studies done by Charles Carroll, M.D., Paul McAtee, M.D. and Lee Riley, M.D. revealed that “The amount of damage to the automobile bears little relation to the force applied to the cervical spine (neck) of the occupants.”In other words, the injuries to the passengers is not necessarily directly related to the damage to the vehicle. As a matter of fact, I have had patients who had relatively minor injuries who were sitting next to someone who was severely hurt. So it is almost impossible to tell by looking at the car if you were injured in the wreck.
But there are easy, simple and non-invasive ways to tell if you have been injured. (One of these ways is the Diagnostic Ultrasound Screening that we talk about later in this report.) And how those injuries will affect you in the future. We will tell you more about this later in this report.
Q: If I Need Treatment For This Injury, Do I Have To Pay For It Myself?
A: No. If you have been injured in an auto accident, our policy is to wait for insurance payment. This way you can get the care you need without any cash outlay. Our office also provides care “on credit” when patients are represented by an attorney.
Some car insurance policies have what is called “Med Pay.” This means that your medical bills will be paid at 100% up to a certain limit. My office manager can assist you in obtaining this information. Using your med pay insurance will not raise your premiums!
Q: The Insurance Company Has Been Calling Me and Wants to Settle, What Should I Do?
A: Do not sign or settle or talk to anyone until you have had an evaluation of your injury. Often the pain from a whiplash injury doesn’t show up for weeks. And if you settle before you injury is fully resolved, you will be completely on your own and will have to pay out of pocket for your care.
Q: I’ve Been To The Hospital And My Medical Doctor, Do I Really Need to See Dr. Osowski?
A: You need a doctor that focuses in the treatment and diagnosis of auto accident injuries. Usually hospitals will check vital signs, take laying down x-rays and release the patient with pain relief medication. They normally do not treat the underlying improper musculoskeletal biomechanics like chiropractors do and that can lead to future pain. And often times these problems can’t be seen until special tests are performed (like our Spinal Diagnostic Ultrasound) or x-rays that are taken while you are standing or perhaps even a “motion picture” x-ray.
If you are still having problems, you should get a second opinion about your injuries. If your M.D. has given you pills, you must understand that pills do not correct structural or soft tissue damage. There are special therapies designed for that, and we offer these modalities at our Fort Smith office.
Q: Does Your Care Hurt?
A: Absolutely not. The care is very gentle and quite soothing. We use many different methods, including therapy, spinal rehabilitation programs, joint mobilization, spinal ultrasounds and other services. And the goal of care at our office is to help you to feel like you did before your accident;and to get you there as quickly as possible! This is called “Pre-Accident” Status.
Q: What Services Does Your Clinic Provide?
A: Here at River Valley Back & Neck Clinic we have the specialized and modern equipment to help return you to the level of health you enjoyed before the car wreck. This includes physio-therapymodalities such as: computerized muscle relaxer, sonic wave therapy, spinal traction and deep, soothing heat. Our clinic also features a full array of neck and back rehab equipment to help your muscles to heal quickly. As you can see, all of our services and equipment are designed to get you the relief you need and back on your feet as fast as possible!
Q: What is a “Spinal Diagnostic Ultrasound”?
A:Most people have heard of diagnostic ultrasound, i.e. “sonogram”. Of course they usually associate it with pregnant women. Spinal Diagnostic Ultrasound uses the same technology; only it is used to take pictures of the soft tissues around the neck and back. Below is a sample sonogram report from an accident victim just like you. As you can see, this patient suffered severe soft tissue injuries as a result of her car wreck. This person went to the emergency room, had x-rays and was told she was “O.K.” You see x-rays only show bones; they cannot see injuries to muscle, tendons and other soft tissues in the spine. This is why the Spinal Diagnostic Ultrasound is so important!
So, if you have had your car smashed by someone else and you feel like you may have whiplash, you need to have a sonogram of your neck and back today. This is the best way to verify and document your injuries.
Ultrasound Scan of an Injured Neck
- Multifidus compartment swelling(Neck Hurts) accompanied by effusion C4-6
- Increased hyperchoic signal at the cervical facet joint, suggesting a non supportive inflammation(Headaches) of the capsular joint. C3-5
- Changes in sonographic hyper reflectivity signals of the support ligaments, posterior longitudinal ligament and concurrent joint capsule indicate a strain/sprain of the support muscles of the cervical spine.
- There is swelling(Shoulder/Arm Pain) and effusion of the mid trapezius region with a suggestion of a thickening of the muscle covering.
Q: What Does This All Mean?
A: As you have just read; this patient has suffered severe soft tissue injuries from her car accident. Remember, none of these problems were seen on her x-rays taken at the Emergency Room. These sonogram pictures provided the evidence that this patient needed to prove that she was injured. And these scans helped the doctor to focus the right treatment exactly on her injured areas, so this patient got the relief she needed as fast as possible.
